II.
The
International Society for Education through Art (InSEA) is an
international and non-governmental organization affiliated by UNESCO.
The Organization was founded in 1951, by Sir Herbert Read. Polish
Committee of the InSEA was created in 1989. Its statute states that the
Committee functions on the territory of the Republic of Poland and that
the head office of its authorities is located in Poznań.
Polish
Committee of the InSEA is a registered society and therefore it has been
endowed with legal personality. In 2005 it obtained the status of a
public benefit organization. The Committee is a social organization
which bases its activity on members’ social work. Among its
members one can mention people of culture, art and education; artists,
pedagogues, instructors and multiplicators.
Within its statute activity, PC InSEA launches programmes addressed to kindergartens, primary schools, gymnasiums, high schools, academic circles and adults.

Aim
and object of PC InSEA activity
1.
The main goal is to participate in the development, dissemination and
strengthening of education through art in Poland as well as to support
co-operation with state and international societies in the field.
2.
Education through art is an integrated process involving the shaping of
aesthetic impressions resulting from confrontation with art as well as
inspiring creative activity. The greatest emphasis in the process is put
on visual arts.
The aims of PC InSEA are:
1.
Further studies on the theory of the educational and social meaning of
art and visual arts, particularly in contemporary culture.
2. The perfectioning of educational practice present in schools and
outside schools, activities aiming at improving the share of art (especially
visual art) in educational process as a whole.
3. Organizing co-operation with the “education through art”
specialists and the specialists of other branches, also from outside
educational circles,
4. Co-operating with state, foreign and international centres dealing
with similar issues,
5. Organizing meetings, seminars and conferences on state and
international level, aiming at the exchange of practical experiences,
arranging problematic discussions,
6. Participation in InSEA congresses and meetings, co-operation with
UNESCO on state and international level,
7. Running economic activity in order to achieve statutory aims.
PC
InSEA is in possession of an abundant collection of its own publications
and of a collection of films documenting the projects on education and
education through art.
The most important
projects organized on the territory of Poland (2003-2006)
1.
Small Child’s Art Festival, Łódź, 2000-2006
Co-ordinator: Monika Goetzendorf-Grabowska, Wyższa Szkoła Humanistyczno-Ekonomiczna w Łodzi
The
project has a six years' tradition and a commonly approved formula. It
constitutes an anticipated form of supporting the artistic activity of
small children as well as of their teachers.
The
event engages self-government institutions, kindergartens, societies
functioning in Łodź and all around Poland. Annually it has ca. 1000
participants. A special catalogue with a CD is issued every year.

History’s Open Window
International Summer Academy of Art, Jelenia Góra (2003-2004)
Co-ordinator: prof. Wiesław Karolak, Akademia Sztuk Pięknych w Łodzi, Wyższa Szkoła Humanistyczno-Ekonomiczna w Łodzi
Annual artistic workshops organized since 1998, based on the topics of the
past and the future. They are a continuation of artistic-ecological meetings that were held in Załęcz
Wielki for four years, since 1994.
History's
Open Window
is composed of seven-day workshops for students, culture animators and
pedagogues, conducted in five parallel groups and hosted by invited
guests from Poland and abroad. The Academy is concluded with a
collective exhibition, a parade and the issuing of a catalogue. Each
time there were about 130 participants from Poland and abroad.

Vincent’s Pocket
International Creative Angst Workshops, Poznań, (2002-2006)
Co-ordinator:

an annual international artistic project, addressed to students and
young artists,

creative, interdisciplinary workshops for children and adolescents,

a seminar for societies, students, teachers and art animators,

meetings and group discussions,

promotion of artistic academies that take part in the project,

promotion of Poznań and of the states that take part in the project.
For
our workshops in May we invite students from Poland and abroad,
studying at artistic education departments, academies of fine arts and
pedagogical academies and working with children and adolescents.
In
the seminar we present societies, foundations, artists and
students who have since 2004 realized or are presently realizing
artistic projects in public spaces, involving children, adolescents and
adults. Teachers, instructors, day room tutors as well as the citizens
of Poznań and Wielkopolska are invited to participate. We have also
invited guests from Poland, Germany and the Czech Republic. The seminar
will be a forum for the representatives of different circles.

5. Holidays With
Leonard, Poznań, (2002-2006)
Co-ordinator:

A
serial annual event organized by Children’s Art Centre in Poznań,
ZAMEK Centre of Culture and PC InSEA. The project includes
interdisciplinary workshops conducted in July and August. Each year ca.
1500 children take part in the event.

6. Two-Semester Study On Art-Therapy, Poznań (2003-2004), Katowice
(2004-2007)
Co-ordinator: prof. Wiesław Karolak, Akademia Sztuk Pięknych w Łodzi, Wyższa Szkoła Humanistyczno-Ekonomiczna w Łodzi
A cycle of classes and workshops conducted by invited Polish and foreign
lecturers. Since 1999, the event has been co-organized by the 2nd
Psychiatric Clinic in Łódź and the Polish Erickson Institute. The
venue includes tackling the issues of taking advantage of and
transferring art into treatment and rehabilitative processes in various
healthcare units, kindergartens, schools and cultural units. The event
is annually attended by ca. 30 people from Poland. Participants acquire
a final certificate. Participation is paid.

7.
Under a Starry Sky, Giżycko,
(2002-2006)

Tadeusz Wieczorek, Children’s Art Centre in Poznań
A
cycle of creative workshops for primary school children. It also
includes teacher meetings, on which various artistic projects prepared
by the children with the co-operation of Children’s Art Centre in
Poznań are presented. The project focused on characteristic city spots
and it encouraged the children to find magic places.
Five-day
workshops – three workshops a day with 25 children on each
workshop – were held in the courtyards of the Garrison Club or,
weather being too severe, in its concert hall. On the last day, we
organized workshops and presentations In the city centre’s square.
We arranged a presentation (photos, videos) of the
“workshops’ output” which included various artistic
projects realized by the Polish Committee of the International Society
for Education through Art – InSEA and Children’s Art Centre
in Poznań.
The
2005 workshops again took place in Giżycko and were attended by
children from Poland and Lithuania, within the My Neighbour is My Friend
exchange programme between the cities of Troki (Lithuania), Giżycko (Poland)
and Düsseldorf (Germany). The project was co-financed by the European
Union.

The Society is in permanent co-operation with state and foreign institutions, artistic academies, societies and foundations. It presents the activity and output of its members at congresses and conferences.
